Maria Huant PhD BACP
Welcome to Restore Counselling. My name is Maria Huant and I work supporting couples and individuals to overcome a range of relationship challenges. I work to meet the needs of clients seeking to resolve conflict, overcome trauma, infidelity, addiction, separation and bereavement. As an Integrative therapist I am experienced in helping couples and individuals using psychodynamic, systemic and person-centred approaches to help find a way forward that honours who clients want to be.

As an anthropology PhD I have a lifelong interest in human behaviour. My training in counselling and relationship therapy with the NHS and Relate UK has equipped me with practical and theoretical tools to enable you to explore the difficulties in relationships using effective and practical ways to open a dialogue between partners, promote empathy and restore trust.

I work to suit your individual needs using short-term interventions, ongoing therapy for one or both partners and referrals to young people and family services where appropriate.

Following an initial consultation where we explore the presenting issues and learn a bit more about you, I invite clients to think about whether they would like to continue working together. Sessions last 50 minutes and usually take place weekly, but different patterns can be agreed following our initial meeting.
I work in an open-ended model, which means there is no set programme to follow or a recommended amount of sessions, but any less than 8 is, in my experience, unlikely to make significant impact on the issues clients bring.
In our work, we would set goals together and review progress periodically. Likewise, we would work on an ending to therapy together, as it is very important to ensure this is a jointly-negotiated process that gives clients a template for closure and mutually agreed objectives.

I can offer counselling for couples and individuals in English, Spanish and French.
